Philly Schools Get $100K Donation From Live Nation

Philadelphia natives and musicians Tierra Whack and Jill Scott were in attendance for the check presentation Thursday night at The Met.

PHILADELPHIA — The School District of Philadelphia got a funding boost Thursday night from event company Live Nation.

Live Nation Philadelphia and Live Nation Urban presented School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Dr. Tony Watlington a $100,000 check.

The presentation was held at The Met Philadelphia, where Philadelphia native and sing-songwriter Jill Scott is in the midst of a three-show residency for her Who is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds Vol. 1 23rd Anniversary Tour.

In attendance were rapper and Philadelphia native Tierra Whack, Executive Director of Office of The Arts & Creative Learning Frank Machos; Brandon Pankey, Vice President of Business Development and Operations, Live Nation Urban; and Geoff Gordon, Regional President, Live Nation Northeast.

Scott also attended the presentation.

Live Nation’s donation is an annual commitment of providing a portion of every ticket sold at The Met Philadelphia to help fund music programs in Philadelphia Schools, including Scott’s alma mater Philadelphia High School for Girls.

Whack grew up only a few blocks from The Met Philadelphia and attended the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush.

Scott will perform at The Met Philadelphia again on Saturday and Sunday.
