Philly Schools Superintendent Wants More Real-Life Skills In Classrooms: Report

The head of the School District of Philadelphia has come out in favor of more "real-life" skill being taught in the city's classrooms, according to a new report.

Dr. William Hite recently told CBS Philadelphia that he wants to see financial literacy education back in schools.

"How do I start a savings account? And, what does it mean to establish a budget and we want to start that a time before our children begin to think about working, whether it’s in the summer, whether it’s babysitting," Hite told the outlet.

Old home economics lessons included balancing checkbooks, taking out loans, and more, the outlet reports.

However, over years those lessons have been stricken from curriculum for variuos reasons.

Though the outlet reports some schools are including similar lessons into classrooms throuhg workshops and partnerships with area banks, Hite wants to formally introduce real-world lessons back into classes in the city.
