Opioid-Laced Juice Sickens Philadelphia School Students: Reports

Officials said students drank a juice laced with an opioid substance called "wonk," sending some of them to a hospital.

PHILADELPHIA — Students at a West Philadelphia school were taken to a hospital Wednesday after they ingested an opioid substance and fell ill.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at Crossroads Accelerated Academy.

NBC 10 reports School District of Philadelphia officials said two students brought in a grape juice drink laced with an opioid substance called "wonk."

The school was locked down briefly after the students became sick.

At least 12 students ingested the mystery substance that was mixed in with juice, according to CBS Philadelphia.
