Philly Wins Big At James Beard Culinary Awards

Stephen Starr was named the best restaurateur in America, while two other major food players in Philadelphia earned high honors, too.

PHILADELPHIA – The "Oscars of the food world" were recently held in Chicago and Philadelphia was represented quite well, with three food purveyors from the city earning high honors at the James Beard Awards.

At the awards, Stephen Starr, Greg Vernick, and Michael Solomonov all took home some big awards that are sure to make Philly a prime destination for foodies all over the world.

Starr, who is known for Jones, Continental, El Vez, and tons of other restaurants, brought home the Outstanding Restaurateur award.

Vernick, of Vernick Food & Drink, was crowned the best chef in the mid Atlantic region, which encompasses Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Lastly, Solomonov, who is the chef a Zahav, was named Outstanding Chef overall.

Starr also won for Best New Restaurant with Le Coucou in New York City, but we care a bit more about his Philly eateries.
