Philly's Quinta Brunson Wins 2nd Emmy For 'Abbott Elementary'
The Philadelphia native won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Monday night and gave a teary-eyed acceptance speech.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia's Quinta Brunson was in tears Monday night as she accepted an Emmy Award for her performance in the hit ABC comedy series "Abbott Elementary."
Brunson, born and raised in Philadelphia, won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards Monday for her role as Janine Teagues in the series, which is named after one of Brunson's childhood teachers in Philadelphia.
Brunson's fellow nominees in the category were Christina Applegate (Dead to Me), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face), and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday).

"I am so happy to be able to live my dream and act out comedy," she said through tears. "I just love comedy so much."
Monday's win was her second Emmy win, having won the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the show's pilot at the 74th Emmy Awards.

At the 2022 Emmys, Sheryl Lee Ralph, who is married to Pennsylvania State Sen. Vincent Hughes, won the Emmy for "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series" for her role as Barbara Howard on "Abbott."
