Philly's Traffic Delays Among Worst In Nation, World: Study
Software company INRIX recently published its Global Traffic Scorecard for 2023. And Philadelphia's traffic score, shocking no one, is bad.
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia is a top 10 city for traffic jams in the nation, and a top 15 city for traffic jams worldwide, according to a new study.
Software company INRIX recently published its Global Traffic Scorecard for 2023, calculating the cities that have the largest traffic delays for drivers.
The commute times in the study were calculated by looking exclusively at the time it takes to get to and from major employment centers within an urban area from surrounding commuting neighborhoods.

With that in mind, Philadelphia was ranked No. 6 in the United States for delays, and No. 13 in the world for delays.
According to the study, Philadelphia commuters lost 69 hours in traffic in 2023. That amount of time led to an extra $1,209 in costs to commuters, per the study.

The city itself lost $2.9 billion as a result of the delays in 2023, the study found.
Trips to Center City Philadelphia increased by 7 percent from 2022 to 2023, as well, the study shows.
