Plane Struck By Lightning Multiple Times Makes Emergency Landing In Philly

Cancun-bound Spirit Airlines Flight 2214 landed around 11 a.m. shortly after taking off, according to an FAA spokesperson.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A Spirit Airlines flight bound for Cancun made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport on Friday after the plane was struck by lightning multiple times, according to a Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson.

Spirit Airlines Flight 2214, an Airbus 321, landed safely around 11 a.m. ET after the crew reported the lightning strikes, officials said. The plane was headed to Cancun International Airport.

No injuries were reported. It's unclear how many passengers were onboard the plane.
