Armed Man In Custody After Interstate 95 Incident In Philly: Reports

An armed man was reportedly taken into custody on the Interstate 95 by police as traffic backed up on both the north and southbound lanes.

PHILADELPHIA — An armed man has reportedly been taken into custody after an incident on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia Friday morning.

The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management at about 8:45 a.m. said the highway was closed in both directions between Columbus Boulevard and Girard Avenue due to police activity.

Action News reports police stopped a vehicle that was driving erratically, and a man got out armed with a handgun.

The man pointed the gun at his own head several times as police tried to get him to drop the weapon.

NBC10 reports the man at one point got into a police captain's vehicle, but left it before police were able to get the man to put the gun down and take him into custody after about 20 minutes.
