Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Psst! Hey Philly, got $55.7 million? That's how much of an increase the Philadelphia Police Department testified to City Council that they need. The the increase is needed to deal with a citywide staffing shortage causing overtime, inflation and contractually obligated pay raises. Their entire budget request is for $855 million. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
  2. It's good to be the sheriff of Philadelphia -- or even her work friends. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Philly sheriff used money meant to hire more entry level deputies for executive raises and she tried to double her salary to $285,000. (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
  3. Today is a short and flip-flop day. In fact, call out and drive down the shore. Temperatures for the next two days will hover in the low to mid 80s giving us a very warm and summerlike mid-April. (FOX 29 Philadelphia)

  • Philly is a sports town. We love our pro teams to a fault. However, keep an eye on the showdown in Chinatown where the 76ers want to build their new basketball arena. (cityandstatepa.com)
