Pop-Up Beer Garden To Close Permanently After 6 Years In Manayunk

PHILADELPHIA — The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's popular Pop Up Garden in Manayunk will close next month after six seasons in the Northwest Philadelphia neighborhood.

PHS announced that the garden's final day will be Oct. 5, marking the end of a run that began in 2020.

"After several wonderful years in Manayunk, PHS is celebrating the final season of the Pop Up Garden at Manayunk and the community that has embraced the garden since it opened in 2020," PHS said in announcing the closure.

The organization did not give a specific reason for ending the Manayunk location, but noted that its Pop Up Garden concept is designed around temporarily transforming spaces into neighborhood gathering places.

The outdoor venue combines a garden with a bar and restaurant, featuring food and drinks from local farmers, brewers, distillers and other purveyors. PHS landscape teams and designers transform the space each season with plantings and other horticultural features.

PHS said the pop-up has served as a place for gardening programs, entertainment, happy hours, private events and other community gatherings.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to have called Manayunk home for an extended period and are proud of what the garden has meant to the neighborhood," PHS said.

The garden will hold events throughout its remaining weeks, with the final day culminating in a Plant Swap from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 5.

PHS is inviting residents to visit this fall to share memories and celebrate the garden before it closes.

PHS also operates a Pop Up Garden on South Street.
