Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald founded Levain Bakery in 1995 as a small bread shop in New York.

Weekes and McDonald, who had trained for triathlons, started making 6-ounce cookies as the ultimate post-race treat. After finalizing the recipe, they quietly offered the cookies for sale and found a strong demand for the treats.

Weekes and McDonald view Levain’s expansion to Philadelphia as a natural next step for the brand, following a lifelong love of the area and a sincere affinity for the city's world-class restaurant scene. The decision was further inspired by the Levain Bakery team members who originate from Philadelphia.
