A-Rod Calls Cheesesteak 'Cheese Sandwich' During Phillies Game

A cheese sandwich? "Wiz wit sauce?" What on earth were Alex Rodriguez and Matt Vasgersian thinking calling the Phillies-Braves game Sunday?

PHILADELPHIA — If Philadelphians are anything, it's proud of the city and all of its quirks. So when ESPN Sunday Night Baseball announcers Alex Rodriguez and Matt Vasgersian made some gaffes about cheesesteaks while calling the Phillies-Braves game, proud Philly residents were not happy.

Let's get to the meat of their missteps (pun intended).

First, Rodrigeuez called a cheesesteak a "cheese sandwich." Just no, A-Rod. No.

Needless to say, the internet was not too happy about A-Rod's baffling choice of words.

A-Rod's "cheese sandwich" moment even prompted a philosophical food discussion on CrossingBoard.com which wrote a response piece called "Is a Cheesesteak a Cheese Sandwich?" We say no.

Then, in what may have been an attempt to sound "local," Vasgersian mentioned "wiz wit," which we know to mean a cheesesteak with cheese wiz and onions.

But Vasgersian seemed to be confused, calling cheese wiz "wiz wit sauce." We've never heard of "wiz wit sauce," and we're pretty sure you haven't either. Because that's not a thing.

And as fate would have it, social media ripped Vasgersian's comment.

A-Rod also called Phillies star firstbaseman Rhys Hoskins "Haskins" several times during the broadcast.

All this prompted the WIP morning Show to tweet out a poll asking fans which broadcast is worse: Monday Night Football or Sunday Night Baseball.

The good thing is the Phillies won 5-1 over the Braves, ending their season's first series with a clean sweep of three wins.

Hopefully as the Phils' season continues, we'll have some better takes on all things Philly than what we got from A-Rod and Vasgersian.
