Sixers GM Bryan Colangelo Resigns Amid Twitter Scandal

President of Basketball Operations and GM Bryan Colangelo is out after a probe into anonymous Twitter accounts criticizing Sixers players.

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations and GM Bryan Colangelo has resigned after he and his wife were linked to anonymous Twitter accounts that criticized Sixers players, revealed team secrets, and lambasted coaching decisions, according to the team.

The team announced Colangelo's resignation Thursday, June 7 on Twitter, saying they accepted the resignation effective immediately.

"It has become clear Bryan's relationship with the team and ability to lead the 76ers moving forward has been compromised," the statement reads.

Head coach Brett Brown will take on basketball operations duties while the team searches for a replacement for Colangelo.

On May 29, Ben Detrick of the sports website The Ringer wrote a piece alleging Colangelo was using anonymous Twitter accounts to criticize Sixers players, including Joel Embidd and Markelle Fultz; share team secrets, such as trade and player health information; and skewer Sixers coaching decisions.

Five separate Twitter accounts were linked to Colangelo and his wife Barbara Bottini.

The investigation concluded Bottini created and posted to those twitter accounts after she admitted to doing so and evidence confirmed she had done so.

Also, the investigation showed Colangelo may have been providing the sensitive team info that was posted to the accounts.

However, Colangelo denied giving his wife said information.
