South Philly Barbacoa Being Featured On Netflix's 'Chef's Table'

The socially-active barbacoa spot in South Philly has already gotten national attention for food and activism. Now it's coming to Netflix.

PHILADELPHIA – One of Philadelphia's most notable barbacoa spots is getting even more national attention as it will be featured in the upcoming season of Netflix's "Chef's Table" show.

South Philly Barbacoa will be included in the new season of the hit show, which will be available for streaming on Sept. 28, according to Philly Magazine.

The popular spot, located at 1140 S. 9th St., made national news for its tacos and its social activism, as cofounder and chef Cristina Martinez is a vocal support of immigrants rights in the United States as she fled from Mexico to the US herself.

Martinez was featured on celebrity chef David Chang's Netflix Show "Ugly Delicious" where she showcased her culinary skills and then appeared on the political comedy show "Full Frontal With Samantha Bee" where Martinez discussed immigrant workers' and their role in the country's food service industry.

Philly Magazine reports there will be a special screening of the Chef's Table episode featuring South Philly Barbacoa at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 at Han Dynasty in Old City.
