Target Closing Center City Location, Opening University City Store

PHILADELPHIA — A Center City Philadelphia Target store is closing its doors, the company said.

Target at 1128 Chestnut St. will close on May 13, according to the company.

"The decision to close one of our stores isn’t something we take lightly," Target spokesperson Kayla Castañeda said. "It’s an action we take only after multiple years of working to improve performance."

This location employs about 45 part-time and full-time workers.

While the Washington Square store, which opened in 2016, is closing, another Target is coming to the University City area.

Target said it's opening a new store at 3701 Chestnut St.

"We value the team members at the Washington Square store, and they will be offered the opportunity to work at nearby Target locations," Castañeda said.
