A teenager died after an SUV they were riding in crashed into a tree on Roosevelt Boulevard Sunday afternoon, Philadelphia Police said.

PHILADELPHIA — A teenager died after a vehicle they were riding in crashed into a tree along Roosevelt Boulevard Sunday afternoon, Philadelphia Police said.

The crash occurred at about 12:31 p.m. Sunday on the 400 block of West Roosevelt Boulevard.

The teen was riding in a red Nissan Pathfinder when the vehicle lost control in the northbound lanes of the road.

Police said the vehicle struck a tree in the left median of the road.

The driver and a passenger, both of whom were juveniles, were taken to a hospital.

The passenger who died was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Multiple news outlets report all the people in the vehicle were 16.

The driver was detained for questioning, according to police.
