Teen Killed Philly Rec Center Worker, Murder Charges Filed: DA

A 14-year-old boy is charged with murder and related crimes in connection with the shooting death of Tiffany Fletcher, 41, Friday last week.

PHILADELPHIA — A 14-year-old boy is being charged with murder and related crimes in connection with the deadly shooting of a Philadelphia rec center worker.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office Monday said Makie Jones, 14, was arraigned this weekend in connection with a shooting that killed 41-year-old Tiffany Fletcher.

The shooting occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Mill Creek rec center on the 4700 block of Brown Street.

Jones and three others were involved in a shootout outside the Mill Creek Recreation Center, where Fletcher, a mother of three, worked, according to authorities.

Fletcher was hit by stray bullets and ran to a nearby business for help. She was taken to a hospital, where she died later Friday.

Authorities said 12 empty shell casings were found at the scene and found a "ghost gun" in a trashcan near where Jones was taken into custody, authorities said.

Jones is charged with murder, firearm crimes, possession of a firearm by a minor, and recklessly endangering another person.

Being charged with murder, Jones is not offered bail.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 29, court documents show.
