Toddler Shoots Herself In Eye With Dad's Gun, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after Philadelphia authorities said she shot herself in the eye with her father's gun, according to police.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. at a home on the 500 block of East Chelten Avenue. When authorities arrived, they found the little girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her right eye.

Authorities on the scene told 6ABC the little girl shot herself after finding her father's unsecured gun.

The girl was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle and was airlifted to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Police said she was in extremely critical condition.

A weapon was recovered and a man was taken into custody for question, authorities said.
