Woman Dies While Hiking Lethal Eastern PA Trail: Reports

A 72-year-old woman who was in the Philadelphia Korean Hiking Club died after falling on a closed Pocono Mountains trail Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA — A member of a Philadelphia hiking club died over the weekend after falling while hiking in the Pocono Mountains, according to reports.

NBC10 reports the 72-year-old woman died after she fell while hiking Sunday morning near Glen Onoko Falls in Carbon County.

According to Lehigh Valley Live, the woman fell on a trail that was closed permanently in 2019 due to hazardous conditions.

After falling, she was rescued by first responders and taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where she died, according to the Philly Voice.

The woman, whose identity was not released, was with the Philadelphia Korean Hiking Club, which chartered a bus to take nearly two dozen members to the trail, when she fell, the WFMZ reported.

At least 10 people have died along the trail since the 1970s.
