Woman Fatally Struck While Riding Bike In Philadelphia: Police
The woman, identified as 30-year-old CHOP resident Barbara Friedes, died after being struck as she rode her bicycle on Spruce Street.
PHILADELPHIA — A 30-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle while she was riding a bicycle Wednesday, Philadelphia Police said.
The fatal crash occurred at about 7 p.m. at 1800 Spruce St., police said.
According to police, the woman, identified by authorities as Dr. Barbara Friedes, was riding her bike heading west in the designated bike lane on Spruce when she was struck by a vehicle also going west on Spruce.

Police said Friedes was thrown about 20 feet and was given aid at the scene by police.
Fox 29 reports she was wearing a helmet and that two other vehicles were struck in the crash.

Friedes suffered severe head trauma and was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:20.
Police said the striking driver was a 68-year-old man.
It's unclear what, if any charges, are being considered.
Friedes reportedly treated pediatric cancer patients at CHOP.
