World's Biggest Wawa Opening Near Independence Mall: Reports

The store will have about 11,300 square feet of retail space and open around Thanksgiving this year across from Independence Mall.

PHILADELPHIA – Get ready Wawa fans: the biggest Wawa in the world is coming to Philadelphia, across from Independence Mall specifically and is set to open later this year.

The Philly-area convenience chain is planning to open its largest store ever at the Public Ledger building, across from the mall.

The 11,300 square-foot store will be located at Public Ledger building at Sixth and Chestnut streets, NBC10 reports.

Wawa's CEO and President Chris Gheysens announced the plans for the new store on Thursday, April 12 during "Wawa Day" celebrations at the grand opening of a new store on the 2200 block of South Street, according to the Philly Voice.

Currently, the largest Wawa standing is in Washington DC and has 9,200 square feet of retail space, CBS reports.
