Wrong-Way, Head-On Crash Kills Woman On I-95 In Philadelphia: PSP

Pennsylvania State Police said a driver who was under the influence was going against traffic on Interstate 95 when he caused a fatal crash.

PHILADELPHIA — A woman died after a driver who authorities said was under the influence crashed into her vehicle head-on on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia early Sunday morning, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The crash occurred at about 2:41 a.m. on Interstate 95 north at mile marker 19.3, authorities said.

Troopers were called to the area for a report of a driver going south on Interstate 95 north, police said.

While troopers were en route, they learned the vehicle going against traffic struck another vehicle head-on.

A 21-year-old woman died as a result of a crash, and police said the driver, only identified as a 44-year-old man, of the striking vehicle was under the influence of alcohol.

The victim's identity was not released.

The driver was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Charges were being prepared when state police issued information on the crash.
