WXPN Airing Month Of Holiday Themed Broadcasts

In addition to holiday programming, the radio station will also host "90s A to Z," which will highlight the eclectic tunes from the 1990s.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia's public radio station WXPN is gearing up for a slew of holiday themed programming and events this season.

Now through Sunday, Jan. 1: Jingle Jams

Thursday: Thanksgiving Day on WXPN

  • Noon: Annual Thanksgiving broadcast of Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant
  • 4 p.m.: Annual Thanksgiving broadcast of The Band's Last Waltz

Friday through Sunday: Block Rockin’ Thanksgiving Weekend
Starting with Funky Friday at 4 p.m. on Friday, hear three-song blocks from fave XPN artists to rock your long holiday weekend.

Thursday, Dec. 1 until…?: WXPN 90s A to Z
Starting at 8 a.m., it’s a week-plus musical journey showcasing the wide array of eclectically adventurous music from the 1990s, presented alphabetically by song title. What will we hear, and when will it end? Tune in to find out!

Monday, Dec. 12 through Sunday, Dec. 18 and Tuesday, Dec. 20: Best Of 2022
Throughout the week WXPN hosts present their favorite new music from 2022 and each specialty show will feature its respective “Best Of” selections including Best Blues, Best Americana, Best New Sleepy Hollow, and more. The Mega Best of 2022 compilation of all the “Best Of” lists from the week will air in ranking order on Tuesday, December 20. Follow along at xpn.org.

Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 8 p.m.: Home For the Holidays - Concert Broadcast
Broadcast and video stream of the annual WXPN Home For the Holidays concert (recorded Dec. 11 at World Cafe Live), with ARTHUR THOMAS & THE FUNKITORIUM, MUSCLE TOUGH, and SUG DANIELS along with special holiday messages from WXPN on-air hosts.

Friday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m.: 30th Anniversary of “The Night Before on XPN”
DJ Robert Drake has been hosting Christmas Eve music marathons for 30 years - so this year, he’ll be on the air live and nonstop for 30 hours with his popular mix of eclectic holiday music. Interact with Robert and all the #XPNNightBefore fans on Facebook.

Host Dan Reed says ‘bye to 2021 and welcomes the musical spirit of the new year in rockin’ XPN style from 7 p.m. Dec. 31 through 1 a.m.on New Year’s Day.

Sunday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day) at 11 a.m.: Top 100 Most Played Songs
