PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A new development on High Street in Phoenixville will be allowed to move forward without building garages.

Borough council agreed at a recent meeting to approve the change to the original plan, which called for a garage to be built with each new unit.

Instead of building garages as stipulated in the originally approved plans, the developer of the new homes, In Land Design, built a paved parking area. Borough manager E. Jean Krack said he didn't think that was a problem. The main priority was keeping additional vehicles off the street in an increasingly crowded town.

"It doesn't really matter what kind of parking it is, as long as it's off the street," Krack said during the meeting.

It's not clear why the garages were not built on to the units, but officials said it's typical for the "the market" to drive such considerations.

The council voted unanimously to approve the "as built" plans, allowing the project to move forward.
