422 Traffic Zone To Shift Near Valley Forge

Among the changes, the ramp from 422 to Route 23 will close for construction. Motorists should expect to see additional traffic.

VALLEY FORGE, PA — A shift in the construction zone on U.S. 422 will change traffic patterns and lead to additional congestion in the area over the coming weeks and months, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced.

The shift will begin with lane closures and traffic stoppages at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, Feb. 13, officials said, until 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning, between the U.S. 202 and Oaks interchanges.

By 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Feb. 14, westbound traffic on U.S. 422 will be shifted onto a newly constructed bridge over the Schuylkill River. The bridge connects Upper Merion and West Norriton townships.

By the end of the summer, officials hope to complete a new bridge to carry eastbound traffic over the river, as well.

Beginning on Monday, crews will also close the eastbound Route 23 ramp. That closure will take place through late summer as construction on improvements gets underway. Motorists should exit at First Avenue and then turn left on Gulph Road to reach Route 23.
