85 Cats, 1 Dog Rescued From 'Deplorable' Phoenixville Home: SPCA
One dog was found dead in the home, which was condemned, while many of the cats are suffering from numerous ailments.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A total of 85 cats and one dog were rescued from "deplorable" conditions inside a home in Phoenixville, the Brandywine Valley SPCA announced on Thursday.
One dog was found dead inside the home. Dozens of the cats are suffering from a variety of ailments, including flea infestation, ear mites, and untreated wounds, though some are healthy and socialized.
The dog, a nine-year-old who has been named Sunshine, is blind, and has advanced dental disease and severe dermatitis.

The SPCA said that their Animal Protective Services team will pursue charges against the residents of the home, including unsanitary conditions, lack of veterinary care, and placing animals at risk of bodily harm.
They did note, however, that it appeared the residents began with good intentions, and that "a cat lover took on too much."

"Folks need to know we're here for them when that happens, and people in their lives need to report anything that seems unusual so we can get the animals help and link the people to help," the SPCA added.
The extent of any police investigation into the situation is not yet known, nor is it known how long the animals had been living in these horrific conditions. Patch has reached out to authorities for more information. The only detail thus far available about the home is that it was a condemned property.
The Brandywine Valley SPCA said that they were placing the healthiest and friendliest cats up for adoption on Thursday, placing 10 at their Georgetown location and 15 in West Chester.
