Numerous Residents Displaced In Phoenixville Apartment Fire, Investigation Underway

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Several people were displaced in a fire Wednesday that damaged an apartment building in Phoenixville, and the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office is leading an investigation into the cause.

Officials said Thursday that they do not believe its origins to be suspicious.

The incident occurred at around 7:56 a.m. Wednesday at the Carrie Court Apartments on Gay Street, near the intersection with Fourth Avenue.

First responders on the scene found flames coming from the basement of the building. They upgraded the incident once they saw the blaze, calling neighboring departments to assist.

Handlines were run from Phoenixville's Ladder 65, while Upper Providence Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services ran a supply line from a nearby fire hydrant.

Crews searched the building to evacuate all residents.

The fire extended from the basement to the first floor apartments, but it was quickly extinguished by about 8:18 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross is working with numerous residents who were displaced by the blaze to provide them with temporary shelter.

Emergency crews were on scene for about three hours.
