PHOENIXVILLE, PA — An environmental cleanup effort will get underway in Phoenixville after gasoline was found in the groundwater, according to the borough and state documents.
The site on 472 and 478 Nutt Road, the current location of Rita's Water Ice and formerly Petrucci's, was once home to a gas station.
Old underground storage tanks have leaked over the years, and the borough has required the owners, Three Six Properties, to complete remediation.
Owners will submit a "remedial investigation report" as well as a cleanup plan to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, in accordance with the Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act.
Three Six owns the Rita's property as well as the adjacent property on the corner of Cherry Street.
According to a filing in the Pennsylvania Code and Bulletin, the future use of the property will remain "residential and nonresidential."
Exact dates for the work have not yet been announced.
