Arcola Road Bridge Under Construction Again To Reportedly Repair ADA Ramp

Wait just a minute...the Arcola Road Bridge still has one more repair to complete.

Just as the sound of ribbons being cut, champagne bottles being opened, and sighs of relief being heaved began to fade away with the bubbling current of the Perkiomen Creek, the familiar site of orange construction cones had returned to the Arcola Road Bridge.

The sidewalk ramp on the bridge is reportedly not compliant with standards established in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Times Herald reports that the slope must be 2 percent, something which crews failed to do the first time around.

Not to worry, though.

The repairs are not expected to take long, and the bridge will not be closed during the construction.

The Arcola Road Bridge was closed for three years after it was deemed unstable in 2013.Its reopening is a boon to residents commuting between Lower Providence, Phoenixville, Skippack, Norristown, and surrounding communities. It's also hugely important for area residents who had been accustomed to easy access to the Providence Town Center, which has grown significantly since the closure.

The bridge spans Perkiomen Creek between the Oaks and Phoenixville exits on U.S. 422.
