Avinash Ganguly to Receive Union League Award

The Renaissance Academy Junior will receive a 2019 Youth Work Foundation of The Union League of Philadelphia Good Citizens Award.

Philadelphia, PA -- After a day of workshops and small group discussions, Renaissance Academy Junior, Avinash Ganguly will be presented with a 2019 Youth Work Foundation of The Union League of Philadelphia Good Citizen Award.

Since 1946, the League has partnered with area youth service agencies to select young men and women for the Union League's Good Citizenship Award. Per the League’s information page, awardees must “demonstrate marked evidence of good citizenship as manifested by a cooperative attitude, self-control, perseverance, good sportsmanship and efforts to uphold the best traditions and principles of the American way of life.”

In addition to the workshops during Good Citizen Day, the students participate in The afternoon sessions which explore the legislative, judicial and executive branches of government at City Hall. The day concludes at the Union League with an evening banquet, when the Good Citizenship Awards are presented to the attendees.

Avinash (Avi), who was nominated by his Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) unit, resides in Jeffersonville, PA with his parents, Atul and Sanjana Ganguly, and sister, Diya. As a 11th grader at Renaissance Academy, Avi is a member of the National Honors Society, the Academic Decathon Team, as well as, the Varsity Soccer and Varsity Baseball teams.

The mission of The Youth Work Foundation of the Union League of Philadelphia, in support of the League's motto, "Love of Country Leads," is to motivate young people to set high personal standards of behavior and leadership, and to inspire them to become responsible citizens.
