Planet of the Vampires

Horror legend Mario Bava’s 1965 sci-fi thriller is a close encounter of the undead kind.
Packed with space-age suspense and extraterrestrial terror, this eerily photographed and
electrifying flick drips with an intoxicating, feverish atmosphere of dread. Not rated. 88 min.
Out-of-this-world blu-ray screening.

Barbarella

Long before there was Space Camp, there was space camp. Directed with tongue firmly in
cheek by Roger Vadim and starring his then-wife Jane Fonda, this is part futuristic sci-fi
adventure, part pre-feminist erotic fantasy, and all fun. Barbarella is a nubile outer-space spy
who seeks a lost scientist named Duran Duran. (And yes, this is where the band got their
name.) Not rated. 98 min. Delightful digital showing.

Double Feature

It!

The Terror from Beyond Space and Alien

Two sci-fi flicks with a little in common? You be the judge. In Edward L. Cahn’s 1958 lowbudget
thriller, a vicious alien kills all but the captain of the first Mars expedition. In Ridley
Scott’s 1979 masterpiece, a vicious alien cherry picks a space freighter crew until only the
captain remains. Hmm. It! is not rated, 69 min., and shown from blu-ray; Alien is rated R, 117
min., and presented digitally. And in The Colonial, everyone can hear you scream.
