Chesco Boy Wins Mid-Atlantic Chess Championship
Very impressive work by Chester County fifth grader Karthik Murugan.

Chester County fifth grader Karthik Murugan recently won his section at the 2017 Greater Mid-Atlantic Chess Championship.
Karthik, who attends Pickering Valley Elementary School in the Downingtown Area School District, won the kindergarten through fifth grade category.
He finished the competition with a 1516 rating and a score of 4.5 out of 5, meaning that he won 4.5 of his five matches.

The ninth annual tournament featured competitions for students through elementary school through high school. It's organized by the Maryland Chess Association and the Kasparov Chess Foundation.
According to the Daily Local News, Karthik has been playing chess for two years.
