The Clinic In Phoenixville Receives $10k Grant For 'Girls In Medicine'
The 'Girls in Medicine' program is a rigorous course for local high school girls looking for a career in medicine.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- The Clinic of Phoenixville has received a grant for $10,000 from The McLean Contributionship to purchase medical equipment for their Girls in Medicine program, they announced Friday.
Girls In Medicine is a rigorous one-year enrichment program for highly motivated and talented high school girls interested in pre-medicine and healthcare careers.
Accepted applicants will learn from top medical leaders in the area, study at Paoli and Phoenixville Hospital facilities, gain medical research and presentation skills, achieve CPR/First Aid Certifications, receive volunteer and internship opportunities, and obtain leadership experience as Health Ambassadors.

“Our goal with Girls in Medicine is to help young women build their self-confidence to discover and realize their full potential for a career in healthcare and medicine,” said Marrea Walker-Smith, Director of Girls In Medicine, in a statement.
The McLean Contributionship, based in Wayne, PA, supports projects in Greater Philadelphia that enhance residents’ lives. The Girls in Medicine program meets the Contributionship’s goals to “promote education, or medical, scientific” and “motivate promising young people to assess and develop their talents despite social and economic obstacles.”

“This generous donation will support our goals to expand our model and help produce the next generation of healthcare providers,” Walker-Smith added.
About The Clinic
The Clinic was established in 2002 to create a medical center, staffed by volunteer clinicians, to help people who did not have adequate access to health care services due to the lack of medical insurance. The Clinic provides primary care and specialty medical services through in-house staff, volunteer physicians and other clinicians. Our medical services include: Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Urology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Allergy, and Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. Other clinical services include, Psychological services, Holistic Health counseling, Acupuncture, Optometry. The clinic offers an in-house laboratory, Pharmacy Assistance Program, and diagnostic tests, procedures, and consults provided by Paoli Hospital under the Charity Care Program.
