"The year is 2017. After a global economic collapse, the U.S. is now ruled by a totalitarian government that controls the population with games shows. The most popular of all the shows, The Running Man, forces enemies of the state to run a gauntlet of mercenaries in an effort to win their freedom. So far, there have been few successes – but that was before framed policeman Ben Richards (Arnold Schwarzenegger) became a contestant. With its tongue planted firmly in its cheek, this adaptation of the sci-fi tale by Richard Bachman (AKA Stephen King) features a first-rate script by Steven E. de Souza (Die Hard, Commando) and a standout supporting cast that includes Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, Jesse Ventura, Dweezil Zappa, Mick Fleetwood, Professor Toru Tanaka, and Family Feud host Richard Dawson! Directed by Paul Michael Glaser. US. 1987. R. 101 minutes. Paramount. 35mm projection."
