Former East Pikeland Police Chief, Kimberton Business Owner, Passes Away At 77

Earl J. Sands was a successful business owner and president of the Chester County Police Chiefs Association.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Earl J. Sands, age 77, husband of Joyce A. (Miller) Sands, of Kimberton, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Parkhouse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Royersford. Born on June 26, 1939 in Norristown, he was the son of Earl and Dorothy (Beatty) Sands.

Mr. Sands was a graduate of Phoenixville High School. He owned EJ Sands HVAC for 18 years, then served as the Chief of Police for East Pikeland Township for 17 years until his 1992 retirement. He served as past President of the Chester County Police Chiefs Association and as past President of the Southeast Pennsylvania Police Chiefs Association in Philadelphia. Earl was active with KYAL as a former Coach and was a life member of the Kimberton Fire Co. An outdoorsman, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Mr. Sands is survived by children, Earl J. Sands, Jr., of Kimberton and Debra L., wife of Jay Pollinger, of Kimberton; sister: Susan Wambold, of Phoenixville; eight grandchildren: Jimmy, husband of Marne Sands, Josh Sands, Hannah Sands, Justin Sands, Jordan Sands, Mason Sands, Joe, husband of Amy Pollinger and Jessica, wife of Tim Huff; eleven great grandchildren: Ava and Ellyse Sands, Madalynn, Lindsay, Alaina and Caleb Pollinger and Hallie, Emily, Connor, Dylan and Jaxon Huff; and daughter-in-law: Michelle Sands, of Kimberton. He was preceded in death by one son: Scott Charles Sands.

Memorial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Earl's name to Centennial Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 840, Kimberton, PA 19442.
