Former Phoenixville Police Chief Mossman Honored By Borough, State, VFW, Jaycees

Two donations of $2,500 were made to the Phoenixville Police Department in Mossman's honor by local community organizations.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- When local community leaders, politicians, and borough council members described longtime Phoenixville Police Chief William Mossman, there were several common refrains used to thank him for his service.

But the most common? People liked him.

“You’ve had a marvelous chief here in Phoenixville,’ State Sen. Andy Dinniman said during a presentation at a recent borough council meeting. “Chief Mossman is a positive example who started as a patrol person, who established relationships with the community, and that’s why we see here in Phoenixville such positive, reaffirming feelings about the police.”

Dinniman was on hand to present Mossman with a commendation from the Pennsylvania State Senate.

“You’re deeply respected and honored by all in the community,” Dinniman added. “You’ve brought people together, and what we’ve seen is nothing but positive police community relations.”

State Rep. Becky Corbin also presented Mossman with a commendation from the state House of Representatives, and pointed specifically to the town’s growth under the chief’s watch.

“When you think about Phoenixville 10 years ago, 15 years ago, what an improvement,” she said. “Anyone who lives around here can see it. The fingerprints of Chief Mossman are on it.”

As part of the proceedings, two donations were made to the police department in Mossman’s honor by local community organizations. VFW Post 1564 Judge Advocate Don Mahoney presented $2,500 to help the department upgrade personal protection vests for officers. The Phoenixville Jaycees also donated $2,500 to the police equipment fund.

Mossman is taking over the police chief position in East Coventry Township, where he resides. He said that he’s excited that his new position will offer him the opportunity to go on patrol more often.

In a brief speech after the donations and commendations, Mossman expressed his gratitude to borough staff for their assistance and spirit of camaraderie through the years.

“You can’t have the kind of career I’ve had without having the support I’ve had.”
