The “Giving Cabinet” by Girl Scout Troop 4894
Six members of Girl Scout Troop 4894 earned their Bronze Award by building a Giving Cabinet for their school, Renaissance Academy.
PHOENIXVILLE, PA – Over the past year, six members of Girl Scout Troop 4894 earned their Bronze Award by building a Giving Cabinet for their school, Renaissance Academy. The Bronze Award is the highest award that a Junior in Girl Scouts can achieve.
The idea for the Giving Cabinet project came while the girls were brainstorming ideas on how to help their local community. They knew at times through the school year that students can run out of school supplies. They wanted to help other students by providing the supplies they need to get the most from their educational experience. Through these discussions, the idea of the Giving Cabinet was born.
The young initiators of this commendable program include Abigail Carre, Celeste Friemann, Margo Munion, Logan Valerio, Ripley Valerio, and Willow Wright. These girls worked for a year, designing their cabinet and creating their school supply list. Then during summer break, the motivated team rolled up their sleeves and spent three weekends cutting, gluing, building, and painting their cabinet.

Once the cabinet was completed, the girls delivered it to the Renaissance Academy and filled it with a variety of school supplies. Through the school year, Renaissance Academy’s Lower School Counselor, Melissa Laurento will hand out supplies from the cabinet to students in need.
Mrs. Christine Herman, Lower School Principal said that she is astounded by the devotion of the girls from Troop 4894. “These young philanthropists have committed so much of their time to help make other children’s lives better. To say that I was proud of their accomplishment would be an understatement.”
