Groundbreaking Held At Providence Place Senior Home
Groundbreaking took place on Wednesday at the site of the former Collegeville Inn.

COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The official groundbreaking on the site of the future Providence Place Senior Center took place on Wednesday morning.
The location, formerly the site of the long-closed Collegeville Inn, received final approval from Lower Providence Township for development earlier this month.
Crews from Horst Construction, which will lead the development, and representatives of Lower Providence Township were on hand Wednesday for the ceremonial first shovel-fulls of dirt.

Construction is expected to be completed by Oct. 2018.
Plans to redesign the inn, located near the intersection of Germantown Pike and Ridge Pike on the banks of Perkiomen Creek, were first released in February. However, months of logistical work, zoning details, and formal approvals lay ahead before the final product was confirmed.

Providence Place will remodel the existing structure and add a new building to complete the sprawling development.
Once restored, the existing inn will be the main dining room and activities space for the center.
The renovated building will also include a spa, community room, resident pub, activities room, and deck overlooking the Perkiomen Creek, officials said.
The new two-story addition, meanwhile, will house 113 resident apartments of "varying sizes and styles," according to the Board of Supervisors.
Providence Place is owned by David Leader, who owns five other senior communities across the state.
