HAIRSPRAY The Musical Coming To Phoenixville

The Tony-award winning show is coming to Phoenxiville, and will be complete with a live orchestra.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — HAIRSPRAY the Broadway musical is coming to Phoenixville's Firebird Theatre.

The Tony-award winning show will be complete with a live orchestra.

The Firebird Theatre will present the show on July 29 and 30 at the Phoenixville Area Middle School Auditorium on the campus of the middle and high school.

Organizers provided the following description of the show:

"Set in 1962, Baltimore teens are dancing and singing while trying to integrate a local TV show. It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do."

The Friday, July 29th show is at 7:00 pm, while the Saturday shows are a matinee at 1:00 pm and an evening performance at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased through Firebird Theatre’s website at www.firebirdtheatre.net.

Starring Shelby Lenhart as Tracy, Chris Fitting as Corny Collins, Joshua Bush as Edna, Sara Rae Wisniewski as Penny, Theresa Vitovitch as Velma, Caitlyn Colgan as Amber, Jake Gould as Link, Samuel Emmanuel as Seaweed, Neveah Ryals as Little Inez and Safiyyah Jones as Motormouth Maybelle plus a talented ensemble.
Hairspray the Musical is directed by Craig Corrao, with musical direction by Mark Edwards. Production staff include Chris and John Buck (Stage Managers), , Christen Mandracchia (Technical Director), Kate Coll (Choreography), Janet Hoehl and Martha Gross (Producers), Sophie Withers (Costume Designer), and Julie Kruk (Hair and Make Up).

The Firebird Theatre is a non-profit community theatre serving the families of Phoenixville and the surrounding area. They noted that this is their sixth summer producing a Broadway musical. Past shows include Mary Poppins, Shrek, Bye Bye Birdie, The Wizard of Oz and Bugsy Malone.
