I Stand Behind What I Say

So here's the short and sweet of it all. Many of us here either blog or comment on what we are thinking. Sometimes it's humerous, sometimes it's meant to be humerous, and sometimes we want to add our voices in to the mix, to stand up and be counted.

So often many people, especially those who are the "comment-ers" on articles decline posting there real name and opt for some type of 'cover name'. I'm not sure why this is, maybe they are afraid of some type of retaliation, or the possibility that their boss might not like what they have to say on a certain subject. What ever the reason I think it's a shame. Personally I don't put much stock in what someone says unless I know who the person is who is commenting. As many of these people who use false identities are those who just want to stir the pot, and really have nothing meaningful to add to the conversation.

More and more websites are requiring users to verify their true identity before they are allowed to post anything. I believe that this should be a mandatory practice. This would deter those who's only goal is to inflict pain, humiliation, and falsehoods by a slanderous method. There is nothing to be gained by sites allowing this type of communication. It demeans the website, and establishes itself as a weak, meaningless gossip site at best.

Look, I've printed some things that I had thought were either witty or somewhat insightful at times, only to be told otherwise. Lessons learned.

So to all of you who are adult enough to put YOUR name behind what you think, congratulations. To those who don't.....I'm sorry who are you?
