If Colonial Theatre Raises $100K By May, Another $100K Is Coming

Donors to Phoenixville's Colonial Theatre say that if the theatre can raise $100,000 by May 1, they'll donate another $100,000.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Donors to Phoenixville's Colonial Theatre say that if the theatre can raise $100,000 by May 1, they'll donate another $100,000.

The anonymous philanthropists, a Chester County couple, hope that the challenge will help spur donations to the Association for the Colonial Theatre's (ACT) Bank on the Arts campaign.

The Colonial Theatre has vastly expanded its offerings and grown its membership after an $8 million expansion began in 2016 and opened last year.

“After just nine months of operation, ACT’s expansion is showing some of the anticipated growth in film attendance, concessions revenues, and new memberships,” explained Marian Moskowitz, ACT’s Board President and a Campaign co-chair. “This $100,000 challenge grant is an invitation to donors and business leaders to invest in a demonstrated success. Just as it has done since the late 90s, the Colonial continues to spur economic development in Phoenixville’s downtown.”

The new wing which was originally built as the Bank of Phoenixville before becoming home to the Daily Republican and Phoenix newspapers, was purchased by the theatre in 2011. The two new theaters allow seating for 238 more guests, includes a large concession stand, rooftop deck, and more, in addition to its original 658 seat auditorium.
