The Hidden
Directed by Philadelphia-born Jack Sholder, this 1987 low-budget sci-fi thriller finds itself in the cult pantheon. Enjoy an otherworldly performance by Kyle MacLachlan (as the good body-shifting alien) and Michael Nouri as the human
detective helping him track down the bad body-shifting alien. Nathan Rabin of The A.V. Club cited this as “a textbook example of how a B-movie can transcend its origins and budgetary constraints through craft, imagination, and
all-around resourcefulness.” Rated R. 96 min. And in timeless 35mm, no less.

Matthew Robbins’s 1981 effort in a nutshell: Kingdom in trouble. Sorcerer’s apprentice (Peter MacNicol, Dr. Poha from Ghostbusters II) aims to save it. Sorcerer (Ralph Richardson) guides him. Big dragon. Big battle. Spoiler alert in
the title. And five points to anyone sharp enough to figure out the name of the dragon. Oscar nominations for Dennis Muren’s visual effects and Alex North’s score. Rated PG. 108 min. Still, it kills in 35mm.
