A lifetime member of the Kimberton Fire Company stole $37,000 from a Day Care owned by the fire company, police allege.

Steve Hughes, 47, of Colstream Road in Phoenixville, will be charged with theft and related offenses, the East Pikeland police announced.

Hughes had been placed in charge of the ABC 123 Learning Center that is owned by the fire company.

Over a three year period, Hughes took money from the day care's deposits and submitted receipts for items that he then used for his own purposes, according to police.

It's not clear what those items were.

Hughes was arraigned and released on $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a later date.
