Limerick Nuclear Generator Shut Down After Malfunction

Unit 2 of the Limerick Nuclear Generating Station was taken offline due to a malfunction, Exelon Generation said Wednesday.

LIMERICK, PA -- The Limerick Nuclear Generating Station moved it's Unit 2 offline on Wednesday morning after a malfunction, Exelon Generation said in a statement.

The Unit was taken offline at about 9 a.m. due to issues with an electrical component that helps recirculate the station's water pumps, Exelon said.

"All systems responded as designed," Dana Melia, the Communications Manager for the plant, said in a statement.

Unit 1 remains at full power.

Unit 2 is currently undergoing repairs, and Exelon said that the system would be fully tested before returning to service.
