Man Faces Homicide By Vehicle Charges In Fatal Upper Providence ATV Crash: DA

A drunk man blew through a stop sign on Christmas Eve in Upper Providence and crashed into a car, killing a 21-year-old woman, the DA said.

An Collegeville man is being charged with homicide by vehicle in an ATV and car crash in Upper Providence Township on Christmas Eve, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

Steven E. Gismonde, 32, of South Lewis Road in Collegeville, was drunk while driving his ATV, leading to the death of 21-year-old Sydney Hunt Stone, the DA said. Stone was sitting behind Gismonde on the ATV.

The incident occurred at 2:35 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, according to authorities. Gismonde was driving his ATV south on Greenwood Avenue, coming up to Ridge Pike, when he blew through a stop sign. He hit the passenger door of a Honda, and both Gismonde and Stone were ejected from the ATV.

Stone was pronounced dead at Pottstown Hospital. Gismonde was treated at Paoli Hospital for his injuries. A toxicology report revealed that Gismonde has a BAC of .135 at the time of the crash, the DA said.

To make matters worse for Gismonde, he was driving using a suspended New Jersey driver's license.

Bail was set at $100,000, which Gismonde did not make, and he was taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 27.
