Lawrence Osterhoudt, 96

Lawrence J. Osterhoudt, 96, husband of Anne W. (White) Osterhoudt, of Lansdale, PA, formerly of West Chester, PA, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 27, 2011 in the Brittany Pointe Estates, Lansdale, PA.  

Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was a son of the late Lawrence A. and Miriam (Deyo) Osterhoudt.  

Mr. Osterhoudt graduated from Lehigh University in 1938, with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Arco Chemical Company for most of his career.  

Mr. Osterhoudt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in West Chester, and was a licensed professional engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.  

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving in the Seabees in the European theater and eventually achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Music was Larry’s love all of his life and he sang in church choirs and local singing groups including the “Songsters” at Brittany Point Estates where he spent his final decade.

In addition to his wife of 68 years, Mr. Osterhoudt is survived by two sons; Lewis E., husband of Jean (Simpson) Osterhoudt of Phoenixville, PA; David L., husband of Linda C. Friday, of Soquel, CA; four grandchildren, Sandy, Amy, Ken and Keith; and one sister, Buff Cooke of Denver, CO.  

Mr. Osterhoudt was pre-deceased by one son, “Little Larry."  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville 145 S. Main St., Phoenixville, on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at 3 p.m. The Rev. David C. McCabe will officiate.  

Burial will be privately in the Jacob Elting Burying Ground, New Paltz, NY. Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the church.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Jacob Elting Burying Ground Association  (JEBGA) c/o The Huguenot Historical Society, 18 Broadhead Ave., New Paltz, NY 12561.
