Obituary: Albert Dvorak, Former Phoenixville Mayor, Councilman

Albert Dvorak was 86.

Albert A. Dvorak, 86, former mayor of Phoenixville, passed away on Oct. 16, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband to Marie (Hritz) Dvorak, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 9, 2011. 

Born in Phoenixville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Nemec) Dvorak.

He graduated from Phoenixville Area High School and earned his Master’s Equivalency from Temple University. He served in the US Marine Corp., stationed at El Toro Marine Air Base in Orange County, CA, and Miramar Marine Air Corp. Station in San Diego. He also served aboard the USS Palau as an aircraft electrical technician, and was a member of the PA National Guard.

Mr. Dvorak was self-employed as an electrical contractor for many years. He was later employed as an electrical technology instructor at the former Northern Chester County Technical School (now CAT Pickering) in Charlestown Township. 

He was a member of Phoenixville Borough Council from 1972 to 1976, and was elected mayor in 1977 and served until 1981.

He was a past vice president of the Phoenixville Area Athletic Association (formerly the Old Timers Association) and a former Emergency Management Coordinator for the Borough of Phoenixville. He was a member of VFW, Post #1564 and Knights of Columbus, Council #1374. 

Upon his retirement, Mr. Dvorak acquired his real estate license. He was an avid golfer, which led him to a part-time position as a ranger/starter at the Linfield National Golf Course. He also served as an assistant at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc. in Phoenixville. 

In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his children, David; Diane, wife of Terry Duncan; Edward, husband of Sandra; Joanie, wife of Barry Reiter; Daniel, husband of Marlene; and daughter-in-law, Ginny Dvorak. Also, there are eight grandchildren, Justin, Brittany, Ashley, Devin, Ryan, Nicole, Lauren and Ellen, and one great-granddaughter, Emma Jane.

He was preceded in death by brothers John, Anton and Joseph and sisters Mary Cesanek and Margaret Carney. 

At his request, funeral services and interment are private.
