Outdoor Concerts in our area this week - Part One

WOW!

As summertime starts to heat up in force, we have a TON of outdoor concerts to tell you about this week - So much so that we have to split our usual weekly report into TWO separate postings this time around... But what the hey - The MORE the MERRIER; right?

Starting it all off tonight in Eagleview is a wonderful FREE show that pairs the Sophie Gault and the Lazy Villains... Gault makes alt-country music with the uncanny ability to toggle between the sweet and the gritty. But whichever direction she chooses, the result is always gripping, unapologetic, and deeply personal.

She has had to conquer inner foes — facing the debilitating mystery of bipolar disorder — but has emerged on the other side empowered and with the songs to show for it, each delivered with her lilting yet attitude-heavy voice. The storytelling is honest and vivid, and her guitar playing evokes the blues stylings of Bonnie Raitt and Mississippi John Hurt.

The Lazy Villains are a Philly-based Americana band. It has been said that they will hold your heart hostage with their diabolical mix of layered harmony, soulful lyrics, and raging riffs.

On Wednesday, you have TWO options - The first being another FREE show with East Nash Grass & Jack Blocker as part of the Chill on the Hill concert series held right there at Valley Creek Park on Route 29 in Malvern.

East Nash Grass have quickly established themselves as the fresh new face of Nashville’s storied bluegrass tradition, a supergroup of rising stars: Grand Master Fiddle champion Maddie Denton is joined by banjo player Cory Walker (banjo player on the five-time nominated “Carter & Cleveland” album this year, among numerous accolades), 2022 IBMA Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year Harry Clark, and new guitar player Frank Rische. This is an all-star band that harkens back to the sort of talent collected in the original Blue Grass Boys and a powerhouse leader of the next generation in bluegrass excellence.

Rolling Stone had them among the “best of what we saw” at RockyGrass in 2025, praising their “rowdy set of high-octane bluegrass numbers,” and noting, “The group itself is a rapidly-rising force on the national touring scene.”

And “rowdy” is right. They are far more than just a group of impressive instrumental technicians, building on night after night of three-set gigs on Nashville’s East Side, playing tiny stages for the love of it between tours backing bigger acts. It’s a hard-forged bond that translates into an infectious on-stage energy that audiences can’t seem to get enough of...

Texan Jack Blocker is set to open the festivities - He is that alternative pop/rock singer/songwriter that you may have seen on season 22 of American Idol... Voted off initially, he was given another chance by the judges and made it all the way to the finals!

Drawing inspiration from Texan legends like Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson, Jack describes his music as “friendly, honest, and Texan”— a reflection of both his lyrical style and the atmosphere of his live shows. Whether he’s jumping around on stage with a full band or singing solo with just an acoustic guitar, Jack’s performances are captivating and compelling... Talk about stick-to-it-tive-ness! Don't ever count THIS talented guy out!

The other show option on Wednesday is by Magic City Hippies who will be appearing at the Concerts Under the Stars series in King of Prussia. They are a Miami-based Indie Funk band with a sound that has been described as dusted with a taste of hip hop and baked in an oven of soul. What exactly does that mean? Guess the only way to find out is to check them out on Wednesday night!
