PACS hosts its 12th annual Empty Bowls event Friday, November 2nd

Tickets now available. Empty Bowls features a delicious meal of soup and bread, pottery by local artists, and live musical entertainment.

Phoenixville, PA October 2018: The primary fundraising event for Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS), Empty Bowls will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Technical College High School – Pickering Campus (1580 Charlestown Road) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funds from Empty Bowls will help provide emergency food supplies and services to local residents.

Tickets are available online from 2018 Empty Bowls. To use cash or check, email development@pacsphx.org or call Donna at 610-933-1105. Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.

As part of the Empty Bowls event, attendees enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread, to remind them of the need to combat hunger, and choose a keepsake—one of more than 600 handmade bowls donated by professional and amateur artists and students. The soup is prepared by culinary students from the Technical College High School, and the bread is donated by Sweetwater Baking, St. Peter’s Baker, and Green Lion Breads. Many contributing partners help make Empty Bowls possible, including Technical College High School - Pickering and Community Arts Phoenixville.

“Empty Bowls is so much more than a community dinner. It truly brings together people of all ages and businesses of all types,” says Carol Berger, Executive Director of PACS. “We have students, parents, retirees, and even businesses helping to create and paint bowls, preparing food, and making donations. To see how so many people from so many different walks of life come together to support the hungry is an inspiring testament to the power of community.”

This year, live music will be provided by The Thin Line, a contemporary band from Chester Springs. For the first time, there will also be a silent auction for 20 gift baskets filled with items donated by many area businesses and individuals. Elementary education students from the Technical College High School will be providing engaging activities for children. And, t-shirts designed by a student from Phoenixville Area High School will be available for sale.

The Phoenixville area’s tradition with Empty Bowls began in November 2007 when the owners of Artisans Gallery & Café planned and hosted the first event to benefit PACS. The concept is simple: Participating artists, students, and organizations create and donate bowls, which are then given to attendees who purchase tickets for a simple meal of soup and bread. The Empty Bowls event gives artists and art students a way to make a personal difference in their community.

Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS) strives to end poverty in the Phoenixville area community by connecting people in need with resources for food security, financial stability, and better health. Since 1972, PACS has offered support, aid, and hope for local residents. As part of its mission, PACS supplies an average of 325 people each month with an emergency food supply that covers three meals for a 3- to 5-day period. In addition, fresh foods, including produce, breads and baked goods are available almost every day. Learn how you can help at www.pacsphx.org.
