Phantoms Knock Off Defending PAC-10 Champs

Phoenixville defeated Pottsgrove 48-41 Tuesday afternoon.

The Phantoms traveled to the home of the defending PAC-10 champions on Tuesday and, led by Rasheed Lawson’s game-high 21 points, returned to Phoenixville with a 48-41 win, solidifying their District One playoff position.

“We played a very strong game today,” said head coach Randy Reber. “We had to go without Howell today, which makes it tougher. Overall I was very happy with the way we defended, but we have to get better from the line.”

Lawson drilled five field goals in the third quarter after shooting 4-of-9 from the field in the first half, while going 0-for-4 from the line.

Phoenixville shot more than 50 percent from the field in the second half, overcoming a dismal 11 of 28 shooting performance in the first half, which sent them into the intermission trailing by one.

“I don’t think we will be a high seed, “ said Reber. “I think we will be somewhere in the middle of the pack. We have another important game on Thursday and then it is up to the selection people.”

At the conclusion of Saturday’s league playoffs throughout Pennsylvania, the District One powers that be will use the power rankings criteria to calculate the teams that qualify for the tournament and in which order they are seeded.

“It’s important that our [athletic director] had made sure we have some quality games this week,” said Reber. “Tony (Palladino) and his staff have done great job with all of the rescheduled to make sure we have games to help us qualify.”
